The National Film Board of Canada’s “Twelve” to be screened at Ed Video Media Arts Centre Guelph, May 1, 2009 – The National Film Board of Canada’s documentary “Twelve” will be presented at Ed Video Media Arts Centre on Friday May 29, 2009 at 8:00 pm, followed by a discussion with the filmmaker. Directed and written by Peterborough-based Lester Alfonso, Twelve was produced as part of the Reel Diversity Competition for emerging filmmakers of colour. Reel Diversity is a National Film Board of Canada initiative in partnership with CBC Newsworld.
If you could go back and speak to your 12-year-old self, what would you say? Philippine-born filmmaker Lester Alfonso attempts to answer this question by interviewing twelve diverse subjects, each of whom moved to Canada at age 12, like himself. On the cusp of teenage hormones, 12-year-olds often experience emotions with more intensity. Adapting to a new country at this age can be overwhelming. In collecting other people’s stories, Lester is forced to face the demons from his own past. Will this journey finally set him free?
The free screening and after party will be hosted by Hot Pie Records and held at Ed Video Media Arts Centre on Baker Street. The after party will feature creative visual artistic performances and live electronic music from the Hot Pie Records artist collective.
